Playmates Toys is a well established action figure producer known for its Star Trek and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lines. The company began in Honk Kong in 1966, originally producing plastic flowers (Tomart 15, pg 22). The business wouldn't produce toys until 1975, and in 1977, they would create the subsidiary now known as Playmates Toys, headquartered in Boston. By 1988, the company would take a chance on the Ninja Turtles license, but would turn out to be a huge success.
They have created many successful toy lines over the years outside of Turtles, including The Simpsons World of Springfield Assortment, Space Jam, and World Wrestling Federation.
